Above is an amazing video from Bastion A on the second tier of the Fort, taken on a Sunday afternoon in August. The video takes a tour from Deer Island, crossing the President Roads and moving South to Blue Hills. On the way through the video, you can see Boston Harbor Lighthouse, Nix Mate, Long Island, Spectacle Island, Thompson Island, and Blue Hills. In the foreground at the end of the video is a view of the 15-inch Rodman Gun. This spectacular view gives you a very good idea why, in 1631, they selected this site to protect the Neck of Boston

Keeping History Alive at Castle Island.

With over 25 years in IT, I have worked mainly as a Unix System Administrator, while also holding various tech roles.

I’ve always loved water, sailing, and history. Castle Island and Fort Independence are key parts of Boston and American history. I worked on the hardware, designed the webpage layout, and created the content for this site

I enjoyed gathering historical details about the fort for this website. I also collected old images from different sources. I was able to ask Bill Spian lots of questions, the President of the Castle Island Association. His deep knowledge of the island has been a huge help. This website is a work in progress, and I look forward to adding more historical gems as I find them.
